There is definitely something in the mix of places that sometimes seem shabby with the ones that ooze with classical charm and the people who are both laid back and cultured without trying too hard with the hordes of young fashionable people riding on electrical scooters that seems to scream: shabby chic!
Indeed and surprisingly to us, Bucharest seems to be full of young people discovering it while riding around in scooters and bicycles.
I mean, who knew Romania had hipsters?! Right?

I also have to say that it’s a real treat to visit the city because of how chaotic it feels.
Though looking back I am sure it wasn’t, somehow while we were there the city center seemed disorganized and flowing in all sorts of unexpected directions. I mean, the traffic was often brutal, book sales seemed to randomly pop up anywhere like wild mushrooms and of course there were the scooters and their bearded riders crisscrossing in any which direction without warning.

Yet, despite the huss and fuss of the capital, I could also feel a sense of melancholy in the air. The feeling that this place longs to once more become a place of opulence and influence as it was in the past.
All in all, Bucharest is a wonderful city to visit over the weekend regardless of who you are but if you’re a hipster then this city is definitely for you!
